Red & Yellow’s AI Innovations Featured in the Honoris Impact Report 2025

Two of Red & Yellow's recent AI initiatives are featured in the Honoris Impact Report 2025: The Honoris Response to AI in Higher Education, launched by Honoris United Universities

Published annually, the Honoris Impact Report highlights the progress being made by institutions like ours across the Honoris network — spanning 16 institutions and more than 115,000 students across Africa — to harness artificial intelligence in ways that strengthen learning quality, improve employability outcomes, and expand access to education. Importantly, the report places a strong emphasis on ensuring that AI adoption is approached responsibly, ethically, and in a human-centred way.

Navigating AI adoption in higher education

While artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the future of work, its integration into tertiary education has not been without challenges. Many higher education institutions globally are still grappling with how to adopt AI effectively, balancing innovation with concerns around academic integrity, ethical use, and staff and student readiness. Honoris institutions, however, have made enormous strides in its adoption.

At Red & Yellow, we have chosen to approach AI as an opportunity to strengthen learning rather than disrupt it. Through thoughtful experimentation, policy-led implementation, and a strong focus on student success, Red & Yellow has pioneered practical and meaningful ways to integrate AI into the learning experience.

Red & Yellow’s contribution: AI-assisted assessment

Red & Yellow’s case study in the report focuses on AI-assisted assessment, and how it is reshaping the student learning experience. By integrating AI into the design and delivery of quizzes and assessments, traditional assessments are evolving from static checkpoints into more responsive learning tools.

This approach enables:

  • More immediate and personalised feedback for students
  • A deeper understanding of course concepts through iterative learning
  • Scalable academic support, without compromising rigour or quality

Verusha Maharaj, Managing Director at Red & Yellow, explains: "We see AI as a catalyst for creativity and a driver of student success. Our AI-assisted assessment initiative has transformed quizzes from static checkpoints into dynamic learning experiences that deepen understanding and build confidence. By reimagining how assessments are designed and delivered, we’ve made feedback and learning scalable, helping every student progress with clarity.”

Strengthening educator capability through AI training

In addition to evolving the student learning experience through AI-assisted assessment, Red & Yellow is also actively supporting teachers, lecturers and faculty in strengthening their confidence and competence in using AI as part of modern education delivery.

Red & Yellow launched the AI for Educators programme to help faculty integrate artificial intelligence into teaching, learning, and assessment. Through interactive workshops and practical training, lecturers are learning to use AI tools for curriculum design, grading efficiency, and personalised feedback, while maintaining a strong human-centered approach to education.

This initiative has enhanced classroom engagement and reduced administrative workload, allowing educators to focus more on creativity and mentorship.

By equipping faculty with the skills to harness AI responsibly, Red & Yellow is preparing the next generation of learners and faculty for a future shaped by innovation and adaptability.

A shared commitment to human-centred AI

The 2025 Impact Report outlines Honoris United Universities’ network-wide approach to AI, guided by a five-pillar strategy and a pan-African AI policy framework that prioritises ethics, inclusion and meaningful educational impact.

As a member of the Honoris network, Red & Yellow remains committed to using technology thoughtfully and responsibly. By combining academic excellence, creative thinking, and purposeful innovation, we continue to prepare students to succeed in a rapidly changing world of work — and to contribute meaningfully to the future of business.
