Website Design

Someone decides whether they trust your website in about a twentieth of a second, and 94% of that judgement comes down to design. That was already true before AI. Now that anyone can generate a site in an afternoon, the web is filling with pages that work but feel interchangeable, and design judgement is what sets professional work apart.

This course teaches you that judgement, and the technical skill to act on it. Over 11 weeks you'll learn to design and build websites properly: from visual identity and UX thinking, through wireframing and prototyping in Figma, to building and publishing fully responsive sites in Framer. You'll also learn to work with AI the way professionals actually do, directing it with real design judgement rather than accepting whatever it generates first. You'll finish with a published, portfolio-ready website built to a client brief.

What you learn here reflects how modern web design is practised: design thinking and technical range together, with the judgement to know when a tool is helping and when it's just making everything look the same.

Course Curriculum

Before you build anything, you need to understand how web design actually works as a process and a profession. This module covers the difference between designers and developers, the stages of a web project, and the five stages of design thinking that carry a site from brief to launch. You'll learn how to interpret a client brief and turn it into clear site goals, and build a reusable design brief template you'll use throughout the course.

Joane Tolmay

Designer & Artist

"I am not strange. I am just not normal.” — Salvador Dalí Jo Tolmay is a dynamic creative professional with over eight years of industry experience spanning graphic design, props design, and creative education. Armed with a BA in Communication Design from AAA and currently pursuing an Honours degree in Design Leadership at Vega, Jo embodies the evolving intersection of conceptual artistry and strategic innovation. A passionate lecturer and mentor, Jo brings imagination to the classroom, blending academic rigour with lived creative practice. Outside the lecture hall, she wears many hats—freelance designer, imaginative ideator, meticulous crafter, skilled sewist, expressive painter, and an experimental gardener (with a flair for cultivating both plants and ideas). She's also—by unanimous household vote—the best barista under her own roof. Jo's design ethos is playful yet purposeful. She believes in creativity as a tool not just for communication, but for transformation—of people, spaces, and perspectives. Whether she’s building compelling brand identities, crafting whimsical props, or guiding the next generation of designers, Jo does so with authenticity, curiosity, and a healthy dose of Dalí-inspired difference.
